(54) PRODUCTION OF 1-ACETOXYETHYL 2-(2-FLUORO-4-BIPHENYLYL) PROPIONATE

(57)Abstract:
PURPOSE: To easily obtain the above compound useful as a medicine, by using 1,1-ethylidene diacetate as an easily available and handleable raw material and subjecting the material to ester interchange reaction with flurbiprofen in the presence of an acid catalyst such as sulfonic acid or Lewis acid.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula III can be produced by using 1,1-ethylidene diacetate of formula I and 2-(2-fluoro-4-biphenylyl) propionic acid of formula II as raw materials at a molar ratio of 1:(1.1W10), preferably 1:2 and carrying out ester interchange reaction of the raw materials in the presence of an acid catalyst such as Lewis acid or sulfonic acid at 0W120°C, preferably 0W80°C for 0.5W30hr. When the reaction is carried out in the absence of solvent, the compound of formula I is used in excess to act also as a role of solvent. In the case of using a solvent, its amount is preferably 5W20 pts.wt. per 1 pt.wt. of the sum of the compound of formula I and the compound of formula II.
