Abstract
A method of inhibiting the growth of bacteria by contacting bacteria with a bactericidal amt. of R1R2R3N+(CH2)mY X- (R1 = C8-20 alkyl; R2 = Me, Et, C8-20 alkyl; R3 = Me, Et; m = 1-6; X = anion; Y = R4SOn, R5R6N; n = 1,2; R4-R6 = C1-12 alkyl) is claimed (in the disclosure, Y has a wider definition). A soln. of Me(CH2)13NMe2 and MeSCH2Cl in MEK was refluxed to give Me(CH2)13Me2N+CH2eCl-, which at 35 ppm and 3.33 ppm showed complete inhibition of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans, resp.
